I'm not sure, but I guess, the owner and the adminds stopped using it, because of all the ' Chip is no dog/chichiaua/whatever you think he is' comments.

sega called him a Chuhauhau, they call knux an echidna, and echidna look like duck bevers. XD but people still call knux an echidna, even if he dosn't look like one.

He's not an animal, you're right. IDK what he is, I didn't get that far on Sonic Unleashed cuz it was CRAP. Apparantly he's some kind of monster-spirit thing or something... but NOT a dog.
